I grew up in Tekoa, Washington and graduated from high school there in 1978. I graduated from Withworth College in Spokane in 1982 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in physical education and a minor in earth science. I received my masterÕs degree in education administration from the University of Idaho in 1987. My first teaching job was at Lincoln Middle School in Clarkston, Washington where I taught earth science, physical education and reading classes for two years. I then was hired to teach at Rainier Jr./Sr. High School in Rainier, Washington in the fall of 1985. I taught 8th grade math and science, high school weight lifting and middle school physical education there for five years. In my third year there I also became the assistant principal with student discipline as my main responsibility. After five years of teaching on the West side of the state, it was time to come home to Eastern Washington, where I was very lucky to land a 4th grade teaching job at Oakesdale School. I have now been teaching in Oakesdale for over seventeen years. My first two years I taught 4th grade, then moved to the 6th grade for two years, became the vice principal, athletic director, and taught 6th through 9th grade science for a few years. I then moved back into the 6th grade and in addition to 6th grade taught a couple of physical education classes and weight training. I am now in my fifth year of teaching physical education to first through twelfth grades. I have also been the athletic director for fourteen years.

Throughout these years in education I have also coached numerous sports. My coaching started out with Tekoa's summer Babe Ruth baseball team in the summer of 1977 and continued through the summer of 1980. I have been coaching some sort of summer baseball from that first season to the present, whether it is T-ball, Pee Wee, Little League, Softball, or Babe Ruth. I was a Freshman Football coach in Clarkston in the fall of 1984 and coached Jr. High track and 7th grade basketball the two years that I was there. In Rainier I was an assistant coach in football for five years, assistant high school boys basketball for two years and then head boys basketball coach for three years. In my last year at Rainier, 89-90, we went to the state basketball tournament for the first time in Rainier's history and placed 3rd in the tournament. I was also named State "B" coach of the year. I have been involved in coaching here at Oakesdale for the past eighteen years in the following positions: assistant football, assistant boys basketball, assistant baseball, head football, head boysÕ basketball and head baseball.

My family life is a GREAT one. I married my wife Karen Kilpatrick, an Oakesdale High School graduate, on June 23rd, 1984. We have three children, Lance (14-year-old freshman), Alexa (10-year-old sixth grader), and Lindsey (7-year-old third grader). We couldn't be happier living in the wonderful community of Oakesdale.

(Just one side note on how Karen and I really feel about living where we do now; as I stated earlier after five years over on the west side, Karen and I knew it was time to head back to the east side of the state ("God's Country"). So, we told our employers we would not be back in the fall and were heading "home". We put our belongings in storage in Spokane and began our search for employment. We couldn't have been happier when I was offered a job in Oakesdale and it has been a great experience since.
